Ich lebe und arbeitete in Köln. Im Jahr 2015 schloss ich mein Studium an der Hochschule Düsseldorf mit einem Diplom im Bereich Illustration ab. Meine künstlerische Praxis wurzelt in einer Jugend, die von einer Diskrepanz zwischen äußerer Wohlstandsillusion und inneren familiären Konflikten geprägt war. Die Mischung aus patriarchalen Strukturen, misogynen Erfahrungen und den rigiden Körperbildern der 90er-Jahre bildet den Ausgangspunkt für meine Arbeit, die sich mit der Suche nach weiblicher Identität, Selbstwert, dem eigenen Körper und der Befreiung von äußeren Zuschreibungen beschäftigt. Formal arbeite ich in Neon- und Pastellfarben, mit Oberflächen, die kaum Pinselspuren erkennen lassen und so an virtuelle Bildwelten erinnern. Die meist weiblichen Figuren beanspruchen bewusst Raum und verweigern die Einordnung in traditionelle Schönheitsnormen. Ihre Gefühlswelt und ihre individuelle Wahrnehmung stehen im Zentrum – nicht ihre Anpassung an gesellschaftliche Erwartungen. Mein künstlerischer Weg begann während meines Illustrationsstudiums an der Hochschule Düsseldorf (2005-2011), wo ich bereits eigene Themen und Bildwelten entwickelte. Nach einer längeren Phase digitaler Arbeiten habe ich mich in meinem Schaffen in den letzten Jahren zunehmend der Malerei zugewandt. --- ENGLISH Saskia Overath (f), born in 1982. I live and work in Cologne. In 2015, I graduated from Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences with a degree in illustration. My artistic practice is rooted in a youth marked by a discrepancy between the outward illusion of prosperity and internal family conflicts. The combination of patriarchal structures, misogynistic experiences, and the rigid body images of the 1990s forms the starting point for my work, which explores the search for female identity, self-worth, one’s own body, and liberation from external labels. Formally, I work in neon and pastel colors, creating surfaces that reveal almost no brushstrokes and thus evoke virtual visual worlds. The figures, mostly female, deliberately claim space and refuse to conform to traditional standards of beauty. The focus is on their emotional world and their individual perceptions – not on their conformity to societal expectations. My artistic journey began while I was studying illustration at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (2005–2011), where I was already developing my own themes and visual worlds.
